The Daks Scarver Fabric Film is a study of material, rhythm, and process, developed in collaboration with Sam Palmer. Set within a factory environment in Scotland, the film explores how Daks fabrics are made, transforming production into a visual and poetic language. The Daks Scarver Fabric Film introduces a world defined by pattern, repetition, and movement.
Inside the factory, the process of making becomes the narrative. Threads, fibres, and machinery move in continuous cycles. Each stage reveals a different aspect of the material, from raw texture to finished pattern. The camera observes these transitions closely, allowing the details to guide the rhythm of the film.
Pattern plays a central role throughout. Repetition creates structure, while variation introduces subtle shifts in tone and form. The movement of fabric through machines generates a visual cadence that feels both mechanical and organic. This interplay between control and flow becomes a defining element of the piece.
Rather than presenting the process in a purely documentary way, the film approaches it as a graphic and poetic study. Composition focuses on abstraction, isolating shapes, colours, and textures. Close-ups transform familiar materials into almost unrecognisable forms, emphasising surface and detail. The result is a visual language that moves between realism and abstraction.
The Daks Scarver Fabric Film maintains a balance between precision and expression. The structure of the factory provides order, while the movement of materials introduces fluidity. This contrast creates a dynamic tension that drives the film forward.
Rather than following a traditional campaign narrative, the film focuses on sensation and observation. It reflects the craftsmanship behind Daks fabrics while elevating the process into a cinematic experience. The result is a piece that connects material, pattern, and movement into a cohesive and expressive work.
